Why would someone trying hacking into all my accounts all in one day?

Almost a week ago, I had an email sent to me saying that my Facebook security question had been answered correctly and that someone is trying to change my password. So, I went through all the security and changed everything. Never gave my password to anyone by the way.
Next, I received another email saying that I wanted to change my email account password. The person trying to get into my account couldn’t get past this email as its not a genetic type of email account. I have personal information on this email account-important stuff.
Another thing. My hotmail account had been saying that I have wrong password. I thought nothing of it and thought it might be a hotmail problem and then I realised that it wasn’t and that my password had been changed. So I recharged it.
Why would someone try to do all this?
I can only think of a few people, could be my step dad? (parents are divorced now) A guy I like? Or some close friends?
