Why can’t google chrome, firefox, or safari “connect to the internet”?

I’ve been using google chrome for over a year now, and it was working perfectly fine until the new year started. I unistalled it thinking I could reinstall it and it would be okay. Nope, I was wrong. It won’t even download. So I decided I would just use Safari. Then, I updated that bad boy, and now it isn’t working either. I downloaded firefox thinking that would work. NO! it didn’t work. I’m using internet explorer and that’s not letting me connect to certain links I need to connect to for school purposes! I can’t afford a new laptop because I am a poor college student (irnoic I know, a POOR COLLEGE student). Each of these (chrome, safari and firefox) all say they can’t connect to the internet. Can somebody PLEASE help me out. THANK YOU!
