What are the best FREE virus programs?

Asked by: 140 views Computer Security

I have AVG free and malware bytes right now. I recently got a virus that is really bad. I can’t get rid of it with avg or malware bytes. On AVG it says it found 32 viruses, but can only delete 14 of them. I’ve ran a virus scan multiple times, and it says the same thing over and over again. So, I guess I need to get some better programs. Can anyone give me some good virus programs? Maybe some programs that specialize in malware, adware, spyware, etc?

I have MacKeeper and that’s pretty good, but you have to have a Mac.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (MBAM) is the best malware scanner available.

There are also several online scanners which will remove what they find, along with Microsoft’s Safety Scanner.

    > Malwarebytes Anti-Malware: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free

    > ESET Online Scanner: http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/

    > Microsoft Safety Scanner: http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Run them all separately, but since none of them give *real-time* protection, there’s no need to worry about any conflicts between them or your AVG.

Oh, and BTW, AVG isn’t very good ;-)
I use and recommend Avast Free.

    Avast Free v7: http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

    Edit:
I intended to mention SuperAntiSpyware also, but got sidetracked ;-)
So kudos to XmetalfanX for pointing it out.

Both of these top two scanners have similar (Great) detection rates and are “neck and neck” as the best Free anti-virus if you ask me.

    Avast – FREE – ( http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download ) OR
    Avira – FREE – ( http://www.avira.com/en/avira-free-antivirus )

Those are Free, but another good choice is, (3) Eset’s NOD32 Anti-virus , which provides great protection and no system lag, though its not free. http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner is Eset’s Online Scanner that is free to use

Those are virus scanner suggestions, and I have to say Malwarebytes (freeware) is the best Malware scanner/remover out there, though (you don’t have to use this, I am simply giving another great product a recommendation) Super AntiSpyware ( http://www.superantispyware.com/ ) is a great product too.

Unlike AV’s (which you should NEVER RUN more than one at a time), “SAS” is perfectly safe to use with MalwareBytes installed … they WILL NOT conflict with each other or crash your system.
