tentative date for prior year refund?

Asked by: 226 views Finance - Taxes

I filed a 2008 and 2009 prior year tax return. Im expecting a refund for both. The IRS says they have the 2008 showing in their system as of 10/21/11 and the tentative date for refund to be mailed is not until NOVEMBER 22nd!! They still have no record of the 2009 which makes not sense cuz i mailed the 2009 a week before the 2008. Anyhow…will this tentative date change? Could it be mailed earlier? Any suggestions on how they process these?

The IRS service centers process millions of tax returns. since your 2008 and 2009 returns were mailed in and opened by machine, the odds that they were in the same stack, side by side are zero.

The IRS would not consider the 2009 return missing until after 8 weeks have gone by.

The IRS usually takes 6-12 weeks to process prior year returns. It usually then takes another 4-6 weeks for them to mail out the check. If you are in desperate need of the income and can provide proof, or would just like a little more understanding on what the process is and why the length in time before receiving the money you can call the IRS and request a taxpayer advocate. The advocates are free of charge and help out many taxpayers to get their returns and refunds processed faster.

This past due income tax returns that you were in no rush to fill out and file correctly and completely when they were each due each tax year filing season 2009 and 2010 for this purpose so now you do have a mailed paper income tax return that is stacked on a desk or shelf some where the IRS address that you were required to mail them to and NOW the IRS has to work their way through ALL of the tax forms that were stacked up before they received your and put it on top of the stack so it will take a while your return to work it ways down the stack until a agent gets it in hand and then at that point in time they be starting on the processing of your 2008 return and then the same thing for 2009 tax return so just have a LOT of patience while waiting for your anticipated REFUND $ $ $ amounts as you will have several weeks or a month or two and could be a little longer period of time of waiting for them at this time in your life.
Hope that you find the above enclosed information useful. 10/24/2011

if the 2009 does not appear you probably best continue checking, it may have been lost in the mail
any manual return will take no less than 6 to 8 weeks for any process
if you have a date of 11/22 for one, keep your eye on your mailbox
