I made over 6000 dollars this year why is my tax return so low?!?

Asked by: 312 views Finance - Taxes

So I just had to do my taxes and all I am getting back is 81 dollars…I made over 6000 dollars this year. I know my dad is claiming me as a dependent but still why is it so damn low?!?! I got hundreds taken out of my paychecks in federal, state, medicare, social security taxes..it just doesn’t make sense to me but I got them done at turbo tax and they say everything is right.

How Others Found Here:

  • If I made 6 000 dollars and claimed one dependent how much money would i get back on my tax return
  • taxes over 6000 dollars

You would get more if you were’t able to be claimed as a dependent by someone. But since you can, suck it up is all i say. You don’t have to worry about paying for a roof over your head at least.

thats not fair. send IRS a letter. and seek a statement that explains why you only got that amount for your tax return.

because you made it into the bracket. Congratulations. You’re now rich enough to get properly taxed, rather than having all your previously-taxed money refunded to you. Wait till you start having to PAY money every year, then it’s even more fun.

Social security and medicare are payroll taxes not income taxes. They are not refundable. Those are for your retirement. Everything you earned over 5800 is taxed at 10%. How much was actually withheld from your paycheck? It couldnt have been very much.

What was taken for ss and medicare has no effect on your refund.

Subtract 5800 from what you made, and divide the answer by 10. That’s what you owe for federal income tax. Compare that to what was taken out for federal income tax (box 2 of your W-2). The extra is your refund.
