How do I fight a computer virus?

Asked by: 172 views Computer Security

Okay. I have been having problems with my desktop lately. I am pretty sure it is some sort of virus, so I need to try to remove the virus. The problem is I have lost internet access on Google chrome and internet explorer. Those are the only ways to get onto the internet from my computer, as I have no other internet engines or whatever downloaded. I also cannot open my anti-virus software (Norton 360) or run a system restore. I have no idea what to do next. Any ideas? (I have Windows XP by the way)

I would go to the computer store to fix it. I had so many viruses on my computers in the past. The only regret is I didn’t fix it soon. Thus, my computers all eventually died on and I had to replace them. Sorry, I’m bad with computers in general. I depend on my norton too much.

do you know about solaris os?(operating system like xp) you can just remove the viruses if u got solaris os installed (actually you can have two os at the same time),
In fact if your computer has a virus there is no way to remove them the use of antivirus is just to block them,so i think it is just the solution,
But if u dont have choice reformat your computer but do some backup 1st for your important files/apps(if its not infected)

Go to a good computer, download, and put these on a cd/dvd, or usb flash drive, and run them from that.

    1. Rkill, it’s a small executable, no need to install, read the description to see why you should run it.
There is more than 1 rkill, download them all, and run them in turn until one runs.

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/anti-virus/rkill
Just double click on the icon to run it.

    2. After rkill has run successfully, run TDSSKiller, another small executable, will remove most rootkits:

    http://support.kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/tdsskiller.exe

    3. Next, install, and run a full scan with MBAM, it’s free:

Your AV should now, open, and update, update it, and run a full scan.

Do you have any other kind of computer you can get to? If so download super antispyware to a flash drive/thumb-drive (what ever you want to call it). Once you’ve downloaded superantiantispyware to the flash drive go into safemode on your computer. To get into safe mode while your computer is starting up click F8 till it brings up an option it says start windows regularly, safe mode with networking and internet (or something like that), and safe mode make sure you click safe mode. After you started in safe mode plug in the flash drive and download superantispyware to your computer after it installs click run scan and wait till it finishes delete the virus restart in regularly and everything should get back to normal. :) hope it helps and superantispyware is free

taking your CPU to a computer technician is the best way and just tell them your problems and they will fix it!

Reboot computer, when booting click on “F12″ none stop. Don’t stop till a screan comes up asking to open in safe mode. Use arrows to select safe mode with networking. When it boots back up in safe mode you will be able to use the internet. Stay there till you research the virus. Use another cmputer to research. Type in google virus that disables explorer. And do crome seprate. Ussually there are blogs to show you step by step how to fix it. Or if you don’t want to do all that reading, call support to the comany you bought computer, it will be a fee and they will log in and fix it remotely. Lastly, you can under safe mode back date your computer to last known date yur internet worked. (Directions to do that use other computer to research that. Or put in recover disk and see if helps.
