Endless Processes and None of the Usual Startup Programs?

Asked by: 15 views Computer Security

So basically what happened was, while a housemate of mine was using my desktop, he somehow decided to download and manually install a video game update /not/ from the game’s creator. When he went to install the update, my desktop had somewhat of a heart attack (the mouse was lagging severely, he couldn’t change windows, the capslock button would respond when pressed but only with sever amounts of lag), and, panicking, he wound up unplugging the computer. When we rebooted the computer, none of my startup programs would load. The normal ones, like explorer.exe, dwm.exe, my wifi adaptor, and the things I’d installed a while ago myself, like rainmeter, rocketdock, and others. I didn’t even have a desktop image. After a little while of searching the internet for information on this matter, I realized the number of processes I had was quite rapidly rising. The culprit? Hundreds upon hundreds of a process called “Windows Command Processor”. And they kept multiplying. On an average day, I have roughly 40 – 60 processes running at a time, most of those popping up on startup, and normal for my computer. Within a minute of having my computer started outside of safe mode, the process count would climb to 1700. I’ve combed and combed through google search, but because of the nature of my problem, all I can find is the “Windows Command Processor Virus” which, I haven’t been able to get the details of that virus, per say, but the symptoms don’t seem to match my own. Can someone please help?

    Hi,

This seems like an issue someone I know has. A bit different. The normal way would be to kill these processes, etc. But, you need a Virus Scanner ASAP. Use Malware Bytes, and this should fix it. It’s one of the best protection software out there. I can give you the PRO version. I offer tech support, so don’t ask why I give out serials and software, I care a lot about people and their computer issues. Download from my download center.

    Choose your download. :)

(You can also try going to software manager and start to uninstall certain applications you don’t recognize or need/think is causing the issue.)

change your startup, but if u have lots of stuff on startup u r likely to a malware, download the free version of spybot BOY, i thought my computer was fine but it removed 5/6 peices of malware and adware, trust me, but change your startup and end unnecessary processes on task manager

You will thank me!! please download it!! download it from download.com, because that is spybot’s partner

Do not use combofix without expert help. Go into safe mode with networking, and run a full scan with MBAM, it’s free:
